Chevy VS Ford
Thread starter: rizoss16
So, my roommate has always been a Chevy guy, and he drives me crazy with the constant Ford jokes. Whenever anything about cars or trucks comes up, whether we’re hanging out, at a party, having dinner, or even playing Xbox Live, he has to bring up how much Ford sucks and how much better Chevy is.
He keeps making jokes about Ford meaning “Fixed Or Repaired Daily” and comes up with all kinds of reasons why Chevy is better. I tell him that any vehicle can break down, regardless of the badge on the front, but he always brings up some story about Ford having problems with tires or other parts.
What can I say to get him to calm down? At the very least, what are some good comebacks when he starts trashing my Ford in front of other people?
For context, he has a lifted late-90s Chevy Silverado 1500, probably a Z71, with 33-inch tires, nice rims, and dual Flowmaster exhaust. It looks pretty good, but he babies the truck and only drives it on weekends. He claims he goes off-roading all the time, but I’ve never actually seen him take it on the trails.
I’m not saying Chevy trucks are bad, but I’m tired of hearing that every Ford is junk. What do you guys think? Is this just friendly brand rivalry, or does one brand really have the advantage?

If he’s talking about an S-10, maybe it’s time for a little friendly competition! Just kidding. Find some videos comparing the trucks and let him see what they can actually do.

I’ve seen Rangers take plenty of abuse and keep going. Every truck has its strengths and weaknesses, so it really depends on the model, engine, maintenance, and how the owner uses it.

You could bring up the differences in how Ford and GM handled their businesses during the financial crisis. But honestly, arguing about company history probably won’t settle a truck debate.

FX4 versus Z71 is always going to start an argument around here. Both packages have their fans, and the actual equipment depends on the year and configuration.

Sounds like he’s more interested in talking about off-roading than actually doing it. Ask him to bring out some trail pictures next time he claims he’s been wheeling!

Just don’t mess with his truck to get even. Give him a hard time back if you want, but leave each other’s vehicles alone.

I’m a GM guy, but Ford makes some good trucks, too. The Corvette, Mustang, F-150, and Silverado all have their own strengths. It makes more sense to compare specific vehicles than to say one entire brand is better than another.

I like both brands. The ZR1 is an incredible car, and the Mustang has some great performance models. The F-150 and Silverado are both capable trucks. It comes down to what you want from a vehicle.

Honestly, if your Ford runs well and does what you need it to do, why worry about what he says? Let him enjoy his Chevy, and you enjoy your Ford.

If he keeps making fun of your truck, don’t let him get a reaction every time. He’s probably going to keep doing it as long as he knows it bothers you.

There are good and bad examples of both brands. I’ve seen people have trouble with Chevys, and I’ve seen people have trouble with Fords. Maintenance and how a vehicle has been treated matter a lot.
At the end of the day, a lifted truck with big tires and a loud exhaust doesn’t automatically make it a better off-road truck. Take both vehicles somewhere suitable, compare their capabilities safely, and have some fun with it.
What’s your take?
